7 Kid-Friendly Things to Do in New Orleans Louisiana

With New Orleans associated with the very adult version of Mardi Gras. Yes, that does happen down on Bourbon Street but the rest of Mari Gras in the city is very family-friendly!

Actually, all of New Orleans is pretty kid-friendly. Below are 7 of my favorite and if you are looking a way to save money on then I highly suggest the New Orleans Pass. The Pass is easy to use! You buy a 1, 2, 3, or 5-day pass and you unlimited access to over 25 attractions in town during your days. 

Attractions include the New Orleans Aquarium, The National WWII Museum, several swamp boat rides, School of Cooking Demo, Oak Alley Plantation and many other historic houses, the zoo, cemetery tour, and many more!

 

What is the best time to go to New Orleans?

I suggest February until May. You won't have the summer heat and the crowds aren't as heavy as kids are still in school the snowbirds are starting to head home. It's just the best time frame in my opinion.

Also, June starts Hurricane season and New Orleans is in an area that gets a lot of storms and you can't plan your trip around that. 

What is New Orleans famous food?

They are known for Creole food but the must have's while in town is their jambalaya and étouffée. If you are there in Mardi Gras season then you want to get your hands on the famous King Cake! 

 

Louisiana Children’s Museum

If your kids are more of the hands-on type, the Louisiana Children’s Museum is an ideal stop. All exhibits are designed to be used and explored by kids. This is an excellent educational stop, and great to visit whether you have two hours to spare or six!

It seems as though every child love bugs, right? The Audubon Insectarium is perfect for the science lovers in your life and offers all sorts of bug-themed exhibits, activities, presentations, and more. Get up close and personal with even the rarest of creepy crawlies!

Louis Armstrong Park

Why not let the kids burn off some steam at Louis Armstrong Park? This park has beautiful landscaping not to mention places for families to walk, run, and hike. Enjoy the play equipment, pack a lunch and picnic, and just swing through to take in the fresh air.

The historic carousel is the perfect spot for families to relax and take a load off. Kids will love picking out their animal to ride in this scenic and well cared for park. The carousel at City Park has been a famous attraction for decades and continues to be a must-stop attraction for families coming from all over.

This park is also known for its old trees that frame the walkways that are great for family photos.

Your eyes will be amazed at the Storyland in City Park attraction! See massive displays depicting your child’s favorite story characters including Captain Hook’s ship, and large dragon slide, and many others.
