For those who love the water, finding some of the best beach vacations for families is a must-do for spring or summer break.

The beach is one of our favorite places to visit. We live in an area where there are no beaches. We have lakes and ponds, but we don't get the pleasure of experiencing the beach life.

When the kids were younger, their first trip to the beach was while we were visiting family in Florida. It was exciting to see their eyes light up as they saw the beach for the first time and let the water hit their feet.

We'd love to go back and would like to do so soon, so I've been planning a family beach vacation as I try to find some of the best beach vacations for families.

Best Beach Vacations for Families

Here are some of the best family beach locations I've found so far. I still have a lot more work to do because I want to find more. Once I get an official list down, I will see what the family thinks.

Do you have a favorite family beach destination you enjoy visiting?

1. Cocoa Beach, Florida

Since our first beach family trip was in Florida, I'd love to go back but to a different beach for more experiences.

Cocoa Beach is more than just a beach. Not only will families be able to enjoy a little fun in the sun next to the water, but it is also packed with fun activities for the kids to enjoy.

Live music, fishing, and surfing are the main attractions at Cocoa Beach. There are also some fun kid-friendly resorts close by that you can stay at for even more fun.

2. Assateague Island, Maryland

Assateague Island is a fun destination for your family beach trip. Kids can swim, walk along the shore, and sit next to the beach. In addition to that, they offer a ton of other cool activities for kids.

Into collecting seashells (maybe for their fun colors or for a seashell craft)? You are in luck because the island is full of them. They even allow you to collect up to a gallon of shells to take home.

Surfing, surf fishing, mats, and floats are allowed so you can have plenty of water fun. Since the island is also a National Park, you can view the wildlife, wild horses, and experience other park events/attractions.

There are plenty of activities for kids and they will have a blast with each activity. If you are not able to make it to the island, you can discover Assateague online through their virtual portal.

3. Coast Guard Beach, Massachusetts

A Cape Cod favorite, Coast Guard Beach is a beautiful family-friendly beach destination that everyone will love.

Big waves and rolling dunes are some of the popular reasons to visit. As you're enjoying the beach, you might also see a cute little sea lion swimming nearby making the experience even more memorable.

Coast Guard Beach is also a historical location where the Mayflower landed after its visit to Plymouth so it would be great for a learning lesson.

4. Silver Beach – St. Joseph, MI

Silver Beach has a huge shoreline that is dedicated to swimming and they even have a calm swimming area for little swimmers.

Alongside the beach, you will also find a playground with slides and swings, a splash pad, and a carousel. If you want to do a bit more sightseeing, you are in luck because there is a local museum, apple picking activity, and discovery barn available to see.
