Growing up in Florida, Alabama was a state I visited often so it was one of the first we roadschooled in with the kids. Visiting any state can be turned into a lesson so we made the most out of every state with this Alabama Unit Study.
Alabama Unit Study – Printables, Activities, and Virtual Field Trips
During my hunt to put together our Alabama unit study I had a hard time finding the printables I wanted so I did what any homeschool om does and I made my own. You can find them on both Etsy and also on Teachers Pay Teachers if you too need a good Alabama printable. It includes a list of virtual field trips!
When we are learning something new I always love to find books on the topic. I am a book worm and I want my kids to be as well so I encourage reading every chance I can get. So we looked up books based in Alabama and famous people and events from Alabama. I liked to mix up both fiction and non-fiction book. They all made our list of The Best Books About Alabama for Kids and Adults.

I always like to follow up books with movies, TV show, and documentaries. Adding in the visual aspect really helps my kids with the learning. Plus they are perfect for rainy day and cuddling. I will take all the cuddling I can get from my kids. So here is our list of The Best Alabama Movies for Adults and Kids.
Alabama Field Trips
One of the first places we visited once in Alabama was the NASA Space Center in Huntsville, Alabama. My kids love all this outer space and where their grandparents live in FL you can see the shuttle launches from their front yard so of course that just fosters that love.

Another favorite was the Battleship Memorial Park, Mobile, AL. Kids especially the boys love anything battleship and fighting related.
These two are just the tip of the iceberg in our 25 Alabama Field Trip Ideas.
Alabama Crafts for Kids
After all the learning (and during the learning) I like to allow my kids to get hands-on with crafts and other fun activities based on what we learned in the state. I was able to include crafts about Helen Keller and Rosa Parks to the animals of the state and even some NASA ones in out 15 Easy and Fun Alabama Crafts for Kids.
Have you done an Alabama Unit Study? What did you include, do, and see? I'd love to know!
