From window shopping for antiques to grabbing a bite to eat. You can never quite get enough of this historical location right in St. Augustine, Florida.

Fort Mose Historic State ParkWanting to visit a State Park while in you’re in St. Augustine? You’ll want to hit up Fort Mose Historic State Park. This location is a premier site on the Florida Black Heritage Trail.

For those who were freed from the British Carolinas, they found a settlement here. This is also an important place in American history. A place you must check out and experience for yourself.

Governor’s House Cultural Center & MuseumAs I mentioned before, my kids love learning about the different historical aspects of the place we visit. Florida is especially exciting to them since we have family that lives here.

Visiting the Governor’s House Cultural Center & Museum can be fun for the whole family. This historical site has been a place in which governors have stayed in the past: from Spain to England.

This location has served many purposes including a post office and customs house!

 

Cathedral Basilica St. Augustine

 

Cathedral Basilica St. Augustine – This is the oldest Catholic church is St Augustine and also a National Historic Landmark. They offer tours daily.

San Sebastian Winery – Located in a historic East Coast Railway building, you can take a free tour and wine tasting. 

 

Mission of Nombre de Dios

Mission of Nombre de DiosKnown as one of the first European settlements on the Isthmus de Panama, this is a very historical location to check out. Nombre de Dios was an important location for shipping in the mid-1500s.

Peña-Peck House Museum – Built-in 1750 on an order for the King of Spain and pirates traveled to St Augustine to raid this home. You can take a tour and get the full pirate filled story.

Father Miguel O’Reilly House Museum – This is one of the oldest buildings in St Augustine, built back in 1565. 

 

Memorial Presbyterian Church

Memorial Presbyterian Church – Built-in 1889 by Henry Flagler in memory of his daughter. You can tour the amazing stain glass windows and many original pieces.

St. Photios Greek-Orthodox National Shrine – This is the first Greek Orthodox Church in the United States and it was built in 1768. You can take a tour of the inside and outside of the building. 

 

First Friday Art Walk

First Friday Art Walk – Get free self-guided walking tours from the art galleries on the first Friday of every month from 8 pm – 9 pm. There is often live music and even food samples.

Fort Matanzas National Monument – Located on the southern end of Anastasia Island this Spanish fort built-in 1742. You can also get free tickets here for the ferry ride to Rattlesnake Island.

Salt Air Farmers Market

Salt Air Farmers Market – Open every Sunday from 10 am until 2 pm. This is a great way to meet locals grab some fresh seafood and get some great local recipes.

Tolomato Cemetery While this cemetery is believed to be hainted it is also the resting place of over 1,000 early St Augustinians and holds a lot of history. 

 

Distillery

St. Augustine Distillery – They feature small batches that have a uniquely Florida taste and you can take a tour and learn some fo their process.

Black Heritage & Civil Rights History Walking Tour – This is an hour-long walking tour that explores the Lincolnville Historic District, the Plaza, and other areas.  The tours are free and require advance reservations.

 

Drum Circle

West African Drum Circles – These take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month, March through October.

Militia Muster and Training – Watch the musket firing at Fort Mose on the first Saturday of each month.

Lightner After Hours – Tour the first floor of this museum for free on the last Thursday of each month from 6 pm until 8 pm. You can also enjoy cocktails, appetizers, and live music.
